Social Commentary No. 7 “KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED AND THEN APPLIED IS POWER”

I’m sure you’ve all heard the urban myth that states ‘if you want to hide anything from a black person, put it in a book’. The inference being, black people seldom read, which I find quiet ironic, seeing as White British adults are ‘less educated’ than ethnic minorities in the UK,  and African-American women in the US are the most educated group!

So where does this false narrative come from, and is there any truth in it?

Personally, I love to read, and deliberately choose titles that will advance and enlighten me (economically, spiritually, intellectually, politically and culturally). I seek books that re-educate and inform me – not entertain or titillate. I trawl book stores and websites searching for authors that will empower and compel me to action.

So, recently I was asked to share some of my favourite titles, and present them here as a potential reading list. Who knows, maybe we can start a ‘Book Club’!!

In the comments below, let me know if you have read any of the books featured in the image, or would like to recommend any.
