“MODOU TOURE + AFRO WORLD GROOVE”

Friday, May 4th, 2018, 7:00 PM – LATE @ Balabam, 58 – 60 High Road Tottenham
London N15 6JU

Woodburner is proud to present a double bill of afro goodness at North London’s live music paradise, Balabam.

** MODOU TOURE:

Heir of the legendary group Touré Kunda, the first African group to achieve worldwide fame in the 1980s, Modou Touré was born into music. His voice strikingly echoes that of his father, Ousmane Touré, who was the inspiration for his choice of career. For Modou, looking for beautiful melodies is the “center of gravity” of his compositions.

This inspires his lyrics (in Wolof, Mandingo, Soninke or English) and his music. He sings evocatively of the ills of modern society, the teachings of the elders, friendship and romantic relationships, hope etc. His ultimate finesse, his pure and sharp guitar playing harmoniously introduces drums, bass, percussion and the electric guitar. Using highly groovy rhythms, sometimes afro beat, pop-rock or funk, Modou reveals the power and beauty of his sublime voice, carrying us from Dakar to London via Paris and back!

** AFRO WORLD GROOVE:

Yolanda Eyama has spent many years dedicating body and soul to the black music of the cultures of Africa. She merges the songs of her origins with pop, funk, jazz and contemporary soul in her own way.

Yolanda sings in African languages, Spanish, English and French. She raps, sings, recites and modulates her way through the cadences and rhythms of Africa. Combined with her sensational band Afro World Groove which features top quality musicians on drums, bass, percussion, guitars, horns and more, they create a party experience which is second to none.

Tickets: £6 advance / £10 on the door.
