‘Close Up: Ava DuVernay’ Compelling and Urgent Voices in Contemporary Cinema

June 2018 @ BFI Southbank, Belvedere Road, South Bank, London SE1 8XT

‘This June we honour the trailblazing women of yesterday, today and tomorrow with major retrospectives and events. Join us as we pay tribute to those who transcend their worlds to expand ours.’

Ava DuVernay is not just a filmmaker; she is a movement. Her works focuses on complex, profound and intelligent characters. Through both her own work and her distribution company ARRAY, DuVernay has championed and propelled stories about women and people of color, and in just over 10 years since she directed her first feature, she has become one of the major contemporary filmmakers working today.
