Bernardine Evaristo’s eighth book, Girl, Woman, Other, won the Booker Prize 2019 with Margaret Atwood, and is a Sunday Times UK bestseller. The novel explores the intersecting lives of twelve primarily black British women with a range of sexualities, cultural backgrounds and classes.
Bernardines’s other books include Mr Loverman (2014), Hello Mum (2010) Blonde Roots (2008), Soul Tourists (2005) and The Emperor’s Babe (2001). Her verse novel Lara (2009) is a multi-generational fictionalisation of her multicultural family history with its roots in England, Nigeria, Ireland, Germany and Brazil. Other works include short stories, essays, poetry, literary criticism, stage and BBC radio writing.
She is currently Professor of Creative Writing at Brunel University London and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, and its current Vice Chair. She was appointed an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in 2009.
She will be in conversation with Joanna Abeyie, journalist, broadcaster and Founder of diversity and inclusion consultancy business Blue Moon.
