While he was still a student at Cambridge University, George Mpanga began uploading spoken word pieces to a small online audience. His break came in 2015, when he was shortlisted for the critics’ choice category at the Brit Awards, and nominated for BBC Sound of 2015.
2018 saw the launch of Have You Heard George’s Podcast, which the Guardian rated as one of the top 20 podcasts of 2019. In it, he plays with form, using poetry and different sounds to explore topics such as Grenfell, racism, poverty and music.
Iman will be talking to George about his career to date, his inspirations, challenges, and life in lockdown.
This event is part of Fresh Voices, which showcases inspirational young people from the worlds of music, literature, activism, stage, and design.
