Guardian Live Events
We may be in lockdown, but many of us are using this time as an opportunity to catch up on all those books we’ve always been meaning to read.
Please join us for a new online Book Club, in which the Guardian’s chief books writer Lisa Allardice will be in conversation with leading writers, to discuss their best-loved novels, the creative process and isolation. They will also be answering your questions. Bring your own wine!
For our first event, Bernardine Evaristo to will join us to talk about the Booker Prize-winning and Women’s Prize-shortlisted Girl, Woman, Other.
Girl, Woman, Other is Evaristo’s eighth book, and brings together the voices of 12 predominantly black womxn whose narratives at times interlink. It transcends time and borders, exploring the characters’ interactions with feminism, racism, patriarchy, politics and sexuality.
The novel won the 2019 Booker Prize (shared with Margaret Atwood), making Evaristo the first black woman to win the award, and as well as being heralded as one of the defining books of the decade, was chosen by Barack Obama as one of his favourite titles of 2019.
