A lack of history and knowledge of self plays a huge role in the issues our community faces, particularly young people, who are often disengaged from their African identity. Our African History Season uses audio-visuals, musical performances, motivational speeches, film, play, and a pan-Africanism presentation to deal with the issues, led by Brother Andrew ‘The Investigator’ Muhammad, Kimba, Kwaku and Nana Asante.
Programme Schedule:
- First screening of the documentary ‘London’s African History: Through Representations In The Capital’, which highlights streets, buildings, parks and monuments with an African connection. Friday October 18th, 6 – 9 PM Free.
- ‘Africa: Did You Know?’ A Hip-Hop Musical featuring rapper Kimba. Followed by a Q&A. Friday October 25th, 6 – 9 PM. £5 adults, £10 on the day; under-18.s Free. Purchase a ticket here
- Highlighting Pioneering Non-Anglo Diasporan And Continental Pan-Africanists. Presentation by community activist Nana Asante. Monday November 4th, 6.30-8.30 PM. Free.
This event is organised by BTWSC. A pan-London voluntary organisation that uses the creative arts to develop potential, raise aspirations, and promote social inclusion.
All events take place at the Members Lounge, Harrow Civic Centre, except programme 3, which is at: Harrow Mencap, 1st Floor, 3 Jardine House, Harrovian Business Village, Bessborough Rd, Harrow HA1 3EX.
