Panel Talks & Workshops
How to be an Activist, with Amika George and Adwoa Aboah
- 8:00 pm
08 February 2021
Young activist Amika George will be joined by Adwoa Aboah to talk about George’s new book, Make it Happen.
After reading about children missing school because they were unable to afford menstrual products, at 17 Amika, now 21, started an online campaign calling for an end to period poverty. The resulting movement successfully persuaded the UK government to fund free period products for schools and colleges across England.
In Make it Happen, Amika presents a guide to grassroots activism, from finding your crowd and creating allies, to holding power to account. Described by Malala Yousafzai as a reminder “that people of any age can create change in their communities”, Make it Happen also features candid interviews with other influential campaigners including model and mental health activist Adwoa.
Amika and Adwoa will be talking to Guardian multimedia journalist Iman Amrani, for an empowering live streamed event about Make it Happen, and inviting you to contribute to the conversation about how we can all create positive change, no matter who we are.
