Black History Studies in association with Professor Lez Henry presents Mammification: Reading the Black Female Body as Text in the Popular Imagination.
Have you ever wondered why Black females in genres like film generally play mammies, jezebels or sapphires?
Well, in this highly interactive talk, Professor Lez Henry will take you on a journey through Black female representation in popular culture. He will demonstrate how the Black female body has been systematically ‘othered’, dehumanised, subjugated and misrepresented in myriad ways.
